In Atlántico, DIAN and POLFA Seize Smuggled Goods Worth More Than $600 Million

Barranquilla, September 21, 2021. The Barranquilla Sectional Customs Office reports a positive outcome in its anti-smuggling control actions during the first days of September, with eight seizures worth an estimated 600 million pesos, including two containers of air conditioning units that had entered the country illegally.

The seizures were carried out at the Port of Barranquilla and in warehouses in the city center, involving a variety of products including household appliances, apparel, toys, footwear, costume jewelry, plastic phone cases and watches, among others.

The controls that led to these operations against smuggling, carried out in violation of national customs regulations, were conducted by the Internal Customs Control Actions Working Group of the sectional office’s Audit Management Division, which continuously performs controls to counter this crime that harms the country’s economy.

The Barranquilla Sectional Customs Director, Javier Polo Navarro, noted that “these results, together with those achieved throughout this year, demonstrate the effective work of the DIAN with the support of the POLFA, aimed at dealing a hard blow to the poor practices carried out by a small group of smugglers who illegally supply various businesses. These measures will continue, and we also invite users and merchants to comply with customs obligations and formalities, rather than engaging in smuggling and customs fraud.”

At the DIAN, we continue to direct all our actions toward a Colombia with less smuggling, less illegality and more honesty.
